PHOENIX (AP) — Amid continued differences with Gov. Jan Brewer, key legislators are preparing plans for possible legislative action during a contemplated fall special session to tackle at least part of Arizona’s growing midyear budget shortfall.
The lawmakers said Monday the plans still being drafted would start with restoring spending cuts and other budget-balancing provisions that the Brewer vetoed Sept. 4 when she accepted most of the budget.
Brewer spokesman Paul Senseman says the governor wants lawmakers to start by restoring the budget-balancing provisions among the vetoed targets.
Senseman says any broader action should include Brewer’s proposed temporary sales tax increase or an alternative revenue source.
